Question about Projects..

Okay so I am shooting a BMX movie, After each day I offload my p2 footage and do a little preedit in vegas. So now i have about 15 days, each with their own project, so 15 different projects, Here is my problem and an example---

I open project of day one. I want to add project day two to day ones project. Everytime i try to import day two's project it automaticly pre-renders, therefore i do not have the raw format of the project. Is there any way to open a project in another project and not have it render? I just want the raw version of the project! arrr its fustrating! thanks so much!

What do you mean, it "prerenders"?

I guess thats not a proper term...It renders into One Video Track and One audio track...SO when the second project is brought into the first one it is not in its raw form just a solid video and audio track, i cannot grab any clip from the second project, they are all compiled into one clip, so it renders them all together...

...they are all compiled into one clip, so it renders them all together...

That doesn't sound right...

What CODEC are you using?

For that matter, you mention P2, are you using an HVX200?

Are you importing veg's to veg's?

Normal operation for a nested project is for the VEG file to come to the timeline as a single clip -- so you will see one track of video and one track of (stereo) audio. It will not appear as a full-blown project with separate clips and multiple tracks.

However, you can have the project open in another instance of Vegas at the same time, and if you make changes to it and save, the changes will appear in the nested project on the other timeline immediately.

If you want the separate clips from the nested project, copy them from one instance of Vegas to the other.

It would be unworkable to do it any other way -- unless two projects had the exact same project settings and track structure, which is unlikely.

thanks david...i wish it wouldnt nest them! lol thanks very much

Nesting is pretty common in most NLE's - because Vegas allows you to have more than one instance up and running, Sony chose to use project files as a form of nesting rather than multiple projects in folders all on the same timeline such as Premiere -

If you're looking to bring Day 2 into Day 1's project, you can select all the media in Day 2 and copy / paste into Day 1 - If you've got to make specific changes to each day though, nesting may be the best option as it retains a nice clean master timeline.
