Question About Printing To CD Labels

The only problm with inkjet ready DVD's is there are not as many makers who supply them, and many of the ones that do have serious compatability problems with home DVD players. I have tried Memorex, Verbatum, and a couple of others that had the white top and were print ready, but would not play on some DVD players.

As far as the lable spray goes, has anyone who has used it ever run into problems with the spray getting on the written portion of the DVD\CD, causing read problems? I would be a tad leary of using a spray, especially if it is like the fixative sprays used for sealing artwork done with graphite or colored pencil.

rapier,

i buy my blank/inkjet ready dvd-r's at costco.

they sell 100 packs of TDK's for just under $50.

And I've never had a problem with any DVD player reading them.

White DVD's - Ritech are the best surface for printing. (richer color, more solid white base)
Discmakers have the smoothest edges
Fuji work well in a pinch from local camera store.
I haven't had any problems with people reading these in over 100 machines.
Taiyo Yuden are supposded to be good.

memorex have the memorex name printed on inside ring.
I try to avoid some of the other vendors.

What brand name are they? If they are good, this could solve some problems.

THanks.

How about VERBATIM for a printable DVD brand? I was informed by the folks at PLEXTOR that VERBATIM is one of the only, if not the only media storage manufacturers that actually make there own media storage (unlike some other companies who contract out the actual manufacturing of the disc, then slap their brand name on it) giving them the highest quality control, thus highest compatibility rate.

Has anyone else heard this?

Yeah, Verbatim does in-house "most" of their own media. However, I give Ritech the thumbs up for usage. Used to work at a software retailer that burned discs on site, back in 2000. We used Ritech white blank tops cds, a Rimage disc burner...the images were very flawless, and I don't remember more than 10-12 ever being returned. (We were selling 75+ per day).

Thanks Focus This! for getting back to me on this. I just spoke to Marc from GenesysDTP.com who pretty much confirmed what you just said. Verbatim is a solid, top brand in terms of quality control and compatibility. But, he also said that for value (cost/quality) Ritech are just as good of a buy.

I understand that for the most part, there are not HUGE compatibility issues with SONY, Memorex, TDK, etc...but since they contract out the manufacturing of their discs, who knows what new and cheaper company will be churning our their discs in 4 months?? So, I guess, I will continue to avoid SONY, TDK, Memorex, etc. and pay a little more for peace of mind. Unless the sale is unbearably good....

Thanks again.
Rick
