Question about my lighting gear.

Hey everyone, while I was at work today I noticed that they were going to throw out this light set up. So instead I asked if I could have it and they said no problem. I got a power supply, 2 large lights, and a case of 4 smaller lights. I just wanted to get more information about them and maybe sell them because I have no use for them, it just seemed stupid to throw it out.

1 Power Gems eb125 power supply
2 Film Gear 1.2k Daylight Par lights with tripods
4 Arri 300 plus all enclosed in an Arri case.

I tested the lights and they all work fine, I just wanted to get more information about what I just picked up that almost ended up in a dumpster.

the arris alone are worth probably $200 each.

what kind of dips*%t, wasteful place do you work that is so rich they would throw lighting gear in a dumpster?
and are they hiring? ; )

Welcome to America...

Assuming the 1.2k PARs and the power supply (is there only one?) for them are in good condition, you could get over a thousand dollars for each of them. You said they work, I really can't fathom why someone would even consider throwing them in the garbage.

I work for an engineering company and I also have no idea why they would want to throw em out haha. My question is now how hard is it to find a buyer? Because after doing some research it seems like most people rent these compared to buying due to its high price. The condition on these are pretty pristine and well taken care of by the looks of it, no scratches what so ever.

I only got one power supply I dont think there were any more.

I dont think I have the tri pods for the arris

NOT.

this stuff may seem rental level to you. but its really not. i mean most every rental house does have this stuff in stock. but you dont get into "un-owned" level until about $3000 per head and more. this stuff will move QUICKLY. especially if you dont try to be greedy about your price.

create a post in the marketplace section here (or even your local craigslist) and it will be spoken for within the day. and you'll probably get a couple grand or more for it all.
the only downside to selling here is that since youre a new member and this story is ALMOST too good to be believed, some people might be leery... so a craigslist local ad might be wiser

I really don't understand why anyone would throw these away. It makes zero sense.
some people have more money than sense. i spent years in corporate america. inventory that didnt get used often or that the manager of the time didnt understand. often was given to employees or simply trashed.

Yea, I am a huge car enthusiast and I know how sketchy this all sounds so I know selling these the same day I register on the forums is a bit skeptical. Do these have serial numbers like car parts so I can prove they arent stolen? FYI I am located in the Bay Area, CA if any of you are interested. I would be more than happy to meet up rather than ship these.

Why don't I know any of these people?

So the back story I found out to these lights for my company is that we used the lights to take pictures of a product we manufacture and when we shut down that part of the factory we no longer had a use for the light equipment and I guess my company is stupid and decided to toss em since we no longer had a use for it. So now here I am with all these lights that I am glad I did not let go to waste.

thats a pretty typical situation. the gear served its purpose. probably made the company 10x or more than they paid for it. and since they arent in the business of selling gear, they decide discarding is the easiest way to go.

welcome to the US where WASTE is king!

well, good luck has smiled on you. you should have ZERO problem selling them in the bay area. search ebay for completed items. take an average of the high and low, knock off an additional 20% of that and there will be money in your pocket before the weekend...

I guess they bought the set up anticipating they would have it for a while but that section of the business got shut down.

So I wanted to sell them for the following;

$1000 - 4 Arri 300 plus w/ Case
$1200 - Power Gems Power Supply
$2400 - 2 Film Gear 1.2k Daylight Par, comes with lens case for each light.

are these prices fair? or am I asking too much?

not unreasonable. but not very competitive. you'll be sitting on them for a while at those prices. i say drop each price by $200 and be thankful for the free money. and share some of your good fortune with the buyer

Power Gems ballasts go for $1500+ (at $1000 you would have NO problem finding a buyer).

FilmGear 1.2s is a bit different story because not too many people use these so finding a buyer might be sketchy, but at $1000/head you will have no issues.

Arri 300 go for about $200/head plus $200 for case, so $1000 for your set seems reasonable.
