Question about minus-green

I just got a pack of warm cards and in there is a minus green card. Why would I need this? I realize minus green gels for balancing flo-tubes with other lights. But if I am shooting under nothing but florescent and white balance with a white card, would the white remove the green just as effectively? It seems like if you white balanced with a minus green card, you would end up with a magenta-tinted image.

Fill me in please.

Whitebalance to a minus green card (magenta) in any lighting and you'll get a green tint in the image.

Actually the minus green card is green and I don't know the process of how it works but it does take the nasty green out of flourscent lighting. I used to use it with my PD150 but I don't now with my EX1 because it has a flourescent color matrix option that does the trick.

Ah then you are right! The footage will be magenta... I didn't know they named it for what it 'does' versus what it 'was'. Since I don't use color balance cards... can you tell me if a warm card is blue and a cool card is orange?

See? I learned something today. Minus-Green cards are green and plus green cards are magenta... because apparently they are named for their given effect, not the color they are.... which is the opposite of gels but still makes sense considering gels don't influence the opposite as a balance card does.
