Question about line levels/ mic levels

I am using the Sound Devices 302 and just bought 2 xlr to ta5 adapters for my Lectros to go wireless to camera when needed. The 302 is line level out, so I bought line level adapters. It sounds a bit too hot into the Lestros. Should I be using mic level adapters and set my outputs on the 302 to mic level? I feel like I should know this stuff. Normally when I go to the camera right out of the mixer it's line out line in. Anyhow, any feedback would be appreciated.... Jimmy

Are you using the standard line level from SD302? It is possible to adjust the level from 0 to -16 dB from the setup menu, first item. That might cool the output enough for you. If you have aready done that, then try the mic level outs.

There are a couple of potential locations where overdirving on peaks could occur. You could be hitting the mixer too hot coming from the mic or other source. The mixer output could be too hot and overloading the inputs on the Lectro transmitter. The transmitter audio level could be set too high. The receiver oudio output might be too high for the camera's audio inputs. And if its audible on the tape you might have to record levels too high in the camera. The only thing you can do is start at the source and work your way through the system setting gain to optimum a stage at a time.

Thanks for all the reply's. Yeah, I can get all the levels adjusted through the signal chain. It's just I have to turn down quite a bit across the board. Which started me thinking maybe the line out of the 302 into a line level adapter then into the Lectro was the wrong set up. I guess in theory I should set the 302 to mic output, use a mic level adapter into the Lectro. I'm on a shoot all week in the foothills of northern California, so we'll see how it goes. Jimmy

What are you talking about when you say a "line level adapter" or "mic level adapter"? Are you talking about a cable wired for line or mic levels (I think the Lectro transmitter has different pins on the input connector to use when sending it mic or line) or are you talking about an inline pad?

I'm talking about the cable being wired for line or mic levels. When I purchased the XLR to Ta5 cable, Trew audio offered a line only, and mic only. So I'm assuming they're wired different. I'm not talking about an inline pad.
