Question about infdifocus pro, 35mm lenses, and gear slippage

This discussion came up in the marketplace forum, but I thought I'd move it here as to not hijack the thread.

I will be investing in the IndiFocus Pro in the coming months, but I'm worried about gear slippage. Note the pictures of my 50mm f/1.4 below:

The focus ring moves back and forth as you adjust focus. Will the FF gears slip off before I am able to go through my entire focus range? If this is the case, are there Nikon lenses which do not move like mine?

Edit: Just noticed the typo in my title. D'oh.

With the Nikons, you just attach the lens rings on the grip of the lens. When you align the follow focus gear unit, try to have the nikon lens in the middle of the focus range. Then align to that.

I've always found that the gears are deep enough when you start in the middle of the focus range.

If you want Nikon lenses that don't move, then the Zeiss Nikon mannual lenses have the focus grip stay in the same place whilst rotating. The lens rotates out from under the grip. But there's other reasons to invest in Zeiss if you want to. But for now your Nikons will be fine.

Enjoy !

im also wondering about this.

so youre saying that the follow focus gear should attach directly to the nikon lens, and not to a gear ring that would be mounted on the lens?

No. You attach the gear ring around the focus ring. The grip of the lens is the rubber strip around the focus ring.

so then i guess the question is, whos gears to get? hows the new indi focus pro?
