FAQ Question about getting gigs around the world as DP

Hey!

I have been filming for 10 years now and have done commercial work localy for small and big companies as well as wedding in the U.S. and central America but I want to do more documentaries, commercial and short/feature film work around the globe (especially in central and South America since it's winter here in Pennsylvania). Does anyone have any pointers on how to get into this kind of work. I love traveling and filming and could use some helpful info from experienced filmmakers.

I cannot speak directly from personal experience, but I know some friends whom I went to school with travel to shoot sometimes. I believe what might help is where we're located, in Miami. Since it's a very international city, my pals have usually been able to link up with overseas brands for shoots here, and after doing good work they were invited to travel. Not to say Pennsylvania is a bad place, but it might be more difficult to make those international connections on any type of regular basis.
 
I travel constantly shooting mainly for multinational businesses, governments and NGOs, so my advice is get some clients who are global. You must have some of those in Pennsylvania:-)
