Question about frequency response

Here's one for the audio tech experts...

Say you have two mics. Both identical, except for the frequency response. For one the freq response is 60 - 15,000 Hz, for the other it is 80 - 12,000 Hz. How does that difference manifest itself in the sound produced by the two mics? And which would be better for recording location audio?

Thanks for your help!

Hi David,

Let's stretch the question a bit and let you answer it. How does the frequency response manifest itself for these sources?

1. FM Radio (30 - 15,000 Hz)
2. AM Radio (40 – 5,000 Hz)
3. Telephone (300 - 3200 Hz)

Of course, there's a lot of other factors that go into recording location audio... (and not just gear - consider the source, environment, transmission medium, end-user, etc)

Good luck, Michael
