Question about filters

Hi

I’m a Pentax K-1000 and Panasonic DVX100B owner...and soon to be a M2 owner too...I’m just wondering (I’ve never actually bought any polarising filters for my pentax camera) what is a good make of filter?...what works best with the M2 and Panasonic DVX as the ND filter has to be switched off.

And is a polarising filter the thing to get?

Thanks in advance

Mike

I started my still career with the K-1000. It's a tank. Mine still works as good as the day I bought it over twenty-five years ago.

Yeah, a polarizer is a good filter to get. Cuts reflections, saturates colors.

Tiffen is good. Allot of people, myself included use the Schneider Tru-Pol. I used it allot in Hawaii.

Thanks there guys

Yes the Pentax K-1000 is a wonderful camera, I’m so happy that I can finally put the lenses to use again with the 35mm adapter.

Is there a big difference between these two do you know?

Tiffen 49mm Circular Polarising Filter…………......£48.39
Hama 49mm Circular Polarising Filter……………...£10.58

Better glass = Better filter. Always.
Tiffen glass is much better than Hama. Might as well go all out and buy the Tiffen, since you want a polarizer, might as well get a good one.

I had the Tiffen 4x4 white water polarizer and it worked great.
I only used it a couple times in Utah before it cracked when I dropped it on some slickrock. :(
But, before it broke, it did a good job.

The only reason I switched to the Schneider was because it seemed that more people were using it.

It does a great job as well.

Between the two you mentioned, go with the Tiffen.
I used to have a B+W polarizer for my still photography gear. That was until it fell apart on me in the field. I never did put it back together. It's still laying around in my camera bag somewhere. It was a 72mm for one of my 80-200 f2.8's.

You're buying the flatness of the glass, coatings that might include single or multi coatings for reflection reduction and contrast enhancement, and color purity of the glass.
