Question about FCP6 file management

In FCP6, can I move the original "content" and "lastclip.txt" files from the P2 cards from my editing drive to my backup drive, which isn't connected, and still be edit that footage? I know when I "log and transfer" it makes quicktime files of it, but im not sure if FCP needs to use the orignal files at some point or not.

No they are not required after log and transfer- however it's an incredibly wise idea to keep a digital clone of every P2 card's contents safe and sound.

Thanks, ya i would put those files on my backup hd then onto another backup drive or dvd's.
