Question about converting to "Digi Widescreen"

I just shot on my dvx in normal mode and now my client is asking if i can put it in "digi widescreen 16 x 9"... I've never actually heard anybody refer to this phrase so I'm wondering how I got about this...

If this just means that i need to put black bars on the top and bottom, do i do just that and then move my clips up and down accordingly to the best of my ability to make them framed in the black bars nicely?

Thanks for the help!

Are you outputing to DVD?

If so, you want to stretch the footage vertically into anamorphic 16:9 and encode it and 16:9 MPEG2.

The DVD player will then unstretch it and add black bars if it is a 4:3 TV.

Thanks for the fast responses... I'm on a mac and have no clue how to stretch my footage vertically into anamorphic 16:9 and can't seem to find any posts that explain how to do this for fcp...

important to know... i shot 4:3 normal... no black bars...

also important to know... this is intended for broadcast so final output is digibeta...

ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED... I NEED TO GET GOING ON CAPTURING THIS FOOTAGE ASAP AND DON'T WANT TO DO THAT TILL I'M POSITIVE ABOUT PROPER SETTINGS...

I would capture with just standard 4x3 settings and do your edit in 4x3 and "stretch" the final cut.

You can convert 4x3 to 16x9 in FCP by altering the aspect ratio to 33.33 and scale to 133, but there are programs which will do a better job. I don't do that kind of convert much, because I shoot in 16x9 if I want it, so hopefully someone can recommend a good piece of Mac software. Shake is pretty damn good, but is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for such a simple operation!
