Question about converting 24fps to 25fps

Hey peeps

I'm new to the forums so please bear with my lack of knowledge. I hope I'm writing this thread in the correct section.

So here's my story, I mainly do still photography and looking to upgrade my DSLR to something with HD. I was close to buying one of the Canons and heard the news about the Nikon D7000 coming out. It can record Full HD 1920x1080 at 24fps in both NTSC and PAL format. Well, I'm from a country with PAL TV standard. A friend of mine has shot a few music vids with a Canon 550D and 7D with awesome results. Canon is all good, as it can record Full HD in PAL at 25fps, which is easy for him to conform to broadcast standards.

I was wondering if there is a way to convert a video from 24fps to 25fps? If so, what is the process involved? What editing software/plugins could I use and would the end result be smooth?

I'm not saying that I will be playing my videos on TV, but it may come up.

Any help/advice would be appreciated, I tried asking my friend, but he seems a bit clueless with the technical side.

Thanks in advance.

You have two methods, Frame blending, or speed up

1) Frame blending requires you to do a very processor heavy calculation at the frames and create new ones to create 25FPS. This method will usually create ghosting with your image and doesn't look appealing IMO.

2) Speed up will let you play back your footage at 25FPS. There is an audio process that speeds up the audio to match the new picture. If there is a good pitch correction on your audio processing it won't sound too different, and the speed difference is very small.

Frame blending is usually done for TV Material since you cant change the time, while for films the speed up method is done since the runtime isn't as important.

In terms of doing this at home, the speed up method is a lot easier than the frame blending method.

Thanks Demistate. I will research those methods further. In terms of Audio, that should be easy with time stretching (well not really stretching) to keep pitch (I hope).

Any dedicated audio manipulation software will have high quality stretching.

You can also attempt to use Paulstretch as a freeware software as well. Not sure how good the result will be as it's designed for long stretches, not short ones.

Thanks for the suggestions Demistate. Yeah I'm not sure about Paulstretch myself, I'll stick to Pro Tools as I've been using it for while now.
