question about capturing

Hi I just joined the forum today after reading some posts. I just recently purchased a dvx100 from ebay that really low hours and I do not wish to use the camcorder for playback/capturing at all. I read a post about using the panasonic dv53 camcorder as a deck to capture with. I just wanted to know more about this. I am shooting my footage in the 24p mode, so can you still capture with another non 24p camcorder and get the same result? I see those camcorders going for under $200 on ebay so if its the truth i would definetly get one. let me know the scoop, thanks

Yep. It should work just fine. I use a Sony trv38 and have had no problems with it transfering 24p footage. It's all just a digital transfer.

Just make sure it supports tiemcode so you can log and capture (many low end panasonics do not)
s-video out is also useful so you can output to a monitor.

so it doesnt matter what brand camcorder? someone said something about the heads being the same on one of the lower end panasonics, is that something i should look for? When I used to shoot with an xl1 I was told to stay with canon if i were to use a low end camcorder for capturing. thanks

Panasonic
Pro; Battery andclharger the same
Cons: none of low end support timecode

Canon:
Pro:
Con: Some Canon's have problems with FCP and firewire control. Check your edit software to see if there's any certified cameras.

Sony:
Pros: Timecode support and good firewire support
Cons:

In any case check the return policy just in case a camera doesn't work
