Question about Bootcamp for Mac

I just got my new Macbook Pro and its really cool. I cant afford to buy FCP yet so I was thinking about getting bootcamp and installing Windows to use Premiere Pro on the mac. Does anyone have any experience using windows on a mac?? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

I use XP on my MacBook Pro daily and run Quickbooks and Office on it. Can't say that I've run into any problems with it except that some of my old PC games won't work cuz they don't support the graphics card in the MacBook. But, I can't imagine that PPro wouldn't work cuz there are Windows drivers that make the all of the ports work well. I'm sure others have tried it, and I don't foresee any problems.

It seems like it'd use up a lot of your RAM. When I boot up, 20% of my RAM is already being used.

Well Im saving up for Final Cut Pro plus all the people i asked on this forum said to hold out for FCP and not buy Express. Why cant I edit in 24p? Im using PP 1.5 on windows and do it just fine?? How is it cheaper also? I've got the installation disks and the bootcamp software was free?

Hi Mike, don't see why it should be a big problem. Bootcamp will get you to make a drivers disk as you go through the process. You really just need to ensure the version of windowsXP you are trying to install has SP2 on the disk if not then it simply wont work.

You can't edit in 24p in Final Cut Express. And if you've already got the discs, it's not cheaper.

are you sure you cant edit 24p in FC Exp? I was under the impression that you could edit 24p in the latest version?? Perhaps I'm wrong... but I seem to remember reading that you could.

either way, I'd save pennies anyway you can and get FCP 6 asap.... trust me, it'll be worth the cost cuz you'll get to learn a very valuable set of apps and I'm sure after landing a gig or 2, it'll have paid for itself..... FCP = you need to know it
