Hay all

I've been stressing myself with this aspect ratio 2.35.1 lately. If I was to take a HD frame shot in 2.35.1 and open it in photoshop, what pixel size would I get?

cheers

You can't shoot HD in 2.35:1. All HD is 1.78:1. The pixel "size" will depend on the format and codec.

ahh that's interesting. Basically I want to get that 'hollywood film' look and because my current project is animation, it needs some camera size to enter in to get anamorphic format feel to it :(

so whats the HD version of 2.35.1?

Try 1920 x 816

Looks like HD to me. :)

Ye that's the conclusion I came to. Hopefully, it will be nice :D

I'm just saying... If he wants anamorphic and hasn't done it yet, he should do it right. Hollywood films shot in anamorphic are 2.40. But whatevs. Do what you want.

If HD is 16:9 and anamorphic is 2.39:1...... I'm sure some simple math of his original HD resolution can figure out the exact pixel dimensions of which to crop.

I get you.

But many professional trailers posted are 1920 x 816, Like Iron Man for example.

That fits the 2:35:1 ratio he asked for.
If you want to add anything, feel free.

Still a mystery why studios shoot/project the films in 2.39 and advertise/distribute them in 2.35....

If anyone knows please tell me. All I know is that the aspect ratio of anamorphic wide screen was officially changed from 2.35 to 2.39 (2.40) in 1970. I can't wait until it finally is observed in whole.

It's not of much importance because it is a change of 6 pixels or something dumb. Just being over technical as usual. A pet peeve, if you will.

I agree, it's silly, and it is just a few pixels. Just pointing out to the OP what the big boys are using for their trailers as far as pixel count.
