Question about AE/FCP/Automatic Duck

am i able to import those AE effects back into FCP without rendering out a quicktime file?

ideally i'd like to do my rough cut edits in FCP, import into AE do visual touch ups (green screen stuff, wire removals, reflections removals, etc), and bring it back into FCP to continue editing and render everything out from FCP. is this workflow possible?

I also have FCP Studio 2 and before I plunk down extra money for AE I want to ask if the two programs are compatable or would you need some sort of bridging software, like Auotmatic Duck, to make th two work seamleesy or loss-lessly?

There's a script on creativeworkflowhacks.com for bringing a FCP timeline into AE. Automatic Duck also works really well and supports quite a few effects and transitions. I'm not sure about getting things back to FCP with Automatic Duck, as I haven't really done it. Usually I just render the clips from AE and reconnect to the new renders in FCP. You're not going to be able to do greenscreen stuff in AE and then render in FCP even with Auto Duck though.

ya after reading through the automatic duck site i figured that but was hoping i was wrong.

grahamdunn, when you reconnect to the "new renders" what do you normally export out of AE as in terms of quality? do you select animation with 100% quality? and if so aren't your files huge?

if you reconnect to QT files exported out of AE once you're back in FCP, and say you have to export out that QT file which is now connected to a new sequence do you lose any quality being as you're rendering out twice?

i'm looking at getting automatic duck sometime tomorrow just trying to get the best workflow down.

as long as you're using FCP 4.1 or higher then you are good: http://www.automaticduck.com/products/piae/

if you don't use automatic duck you must render out a quicktime file of your sequence and import it into AE, then render out another quicktime file. using AD saves time and from having to render out before importing into AE

That's good to hear. I plan on switching to mac in the next few months and already have the AE 7.0 version for windows. I did contact Adobe and they told me I can upgrade to the latest MAC version at a nominal cost. I plan to use more FCP for the my indepth projects and continue to use Vegas for my quick youtube type projects.
