question about a romanek video

i was watching the directors label dvd today on mark romanek. i've been a fan of the fiona apple "criminal" video for some time now. are the camera movements in that video made by the tripod or do they move the camera frame in post? in romanek's words via the commentary "the camera stops on a dime".

i can't find the video online, except via dling it thru "file sharing".
 
Yah he took alot of them off his website, prolly cus I was always on there...

Anywho - I'm afraid I don't remember it well - but it seemed to me to be real camera movements...

It's the video with the ring light right?

kinda hard to say, if i had to guess i would say it was all practicle...but there might be a few post pans/tilts in there.

the light effect was done with a small camera mounted light source, mimicing a flashbulb from still cameras.

yeah i was thinking it was good camera pans/tilts in there. i wanted to try a spec spot out like that. guess ill have to just go for it! :) thanks rich for the video!
 
Knowing Romanek's style, it was probably all camera moves with very little done in post. He probably tweaked them in post. His DP is pretty good at what he does, and Mark's a perfectionist.
 
Hey, is there some **** on the lense at 3:55 or is it just my imagination..?

Also - you bought this from apple rich? So this means the video ipod isn't progressive scan?
 
Ummm... Maybe Rich compressed it himself for his iPod? And why would you say it's not progressive scan? The clip *is* progressive and iPod screen is too, just like any computer LCD... can they be interlaced at all?
 
i think im gonna try a hand at this video. im probably gonna be doing a spec spot for www.kidrobot.com. any suggestions on a cheap light source. if i remember correctly, romanek used a flashlight from your local hardware store.(mentioned on the dvd) im gonna do some test shoots! :)
