Question #1: Phone Caller Sound

I just shot a short film using the 100b and edited it using Premiere 6.02 (yes, old school version) and I have a considerable amount of phone talk in it.

Any suggestions on how to tweak the audio (which I voiced over) to sound like it comes from a phone? ... preferrably, if possible, hopefully, without spending $.

FYI: I did try a phone voice changer but the quality wasn't that great and I didnt want to spend too much on this (ie. upgrading to a really good Voice Changer)
Thanks!

James

Ive used a filter in Audition 2.0 that pretty much nails it. I think the older version (CoolEdit) has it too.

Awesome! Thanks...

BUT!...

Anything I can do using just Premiere 6.02?

trying not to spend $ if i don't have to...

Have you tried putting EQ on the audio tracks? By cutting certain frequencies and/or boosting others you can create your own "phone" sound. Even better, you can choose how much of this effect to layer in, and also when you're satisfied with it, duplicate it to all the other tracks that require the effect.

On Audition, you go to Effects, Filters, then FFT Filter, and on the presets you'll see telephone-receiver and telephone-voicemail. Im not sure if Cooledit has these same presets.

Basic phone line limitation is frequency response. I believe that there is a cutoff somewhere in the 3KHz range. Start by using a lowpass filter in premiere, then tweak from there with other filters.
