Quantum of Solace

Hey Brandon ?

Does this Bond open with hot chicks ? I did not like the PLAYING CARDS opening; I still want my hot chicks.

Lol

This was 100% forgettable and did not at all live up to the expectations after Casino Royale. Reasonably fun as a generic action flick, not so great as a Bond film.

I didn't know what the hell was really going on! There were about four main plots, most of which buried under the others. Not sophisticated confusing but attention deficit disorder confusing!

Nothing was up to my expectations. Sad.

I don't really like having 'expectations' for movies, it usually distracts from the movie itself. I think monetarily that trailers and sequels bank on people's expectations, but when judging a film as objectively as possible, expectations cause big problems.

I didn't have any troubles understanding the plot of the film, there were many things going on, and some unresolved questions, but it wasn't difficult to see where the film was going.

I liked that it wasn't just a straight forward 'here is the mission' type setup and more situations unfolding before your eyes. Daniel Craig's Bond pretty much does it on his own, his way, and I like it.

hmm... went to Houlihan's... home of the 42oz $3 long island... had one of those... then my usual... 24oz blue moon wheat... also $3... then Q of S... I feel THOROUGHLY entertained.

Loved. It.

Definitely NOT a "Bond" movie... but damn... it worked for me. I usually feel bored in most movies... even action movies... but this movie moved at the same pace as my mind... the bigger my smile the faster the pace... and vice versa.

I'm probably going to try to repeat this whole evening exactly, later on in the week... had a lot on my mind lately... and it was the escape I'd hoped it would be.

CR was on another level... but whatever... this worked for me.

Not the Bond people grew up with but I really liked it. The only reason I went was because I kept hearing people talk about the action sequences. So I had no expectations for this to be good or bad, nor did I care. I just wanted to view this from an academic point of view of what's the current standard for a big budget action movie. Mostly from a cinematographical standpoint. It feels very modern to me. Very Bourne Ultimatum style sequences, which was my new standard when it came out.
Anyways, because I wasn't expecting anything form it (and I havnt since I was a horny pre-teen wondering how the f--k they got away with "Octopussy") I was pleasently surprised that they actually tried to make a dark, pseudo-thoughtful movie.

One of the things that I admire about the Borne movies, is how I feel connected to the action... in most of my old favorite Bond flicks... they're fun, but you always feel like you're watching a show.

"Shaky-Cam" is reaching high-art.

Have you ever heard speed metal or some insanely quick house-music, and at first thought it was stupid, and then something clicks and you begin to appreciate the skill behind it? That's how I felt watching this... I loved how the film hardly gives you a chance to relax.

Some effective "devices" I noticed were... people getting blown sideways in explosions, rather then the typical forward or back... camera tilts that roll over the top and correct on the reverse (a cool way to disorient the audience for a second, as it would feel in real life... action scenes cut to tension breakers without any unwelcome "whew... we made it" kind of B.S. (part of the pacing that's so hard for many films to get right).

Oh, and perhaps... maybe... the hottest Bond girl yet... although the last one did it for me in a big way (I'm all about the eyes).
A friend of mine is a fashion photographer in EU... and I'd almost swear that this is a girl I already have some pictures of...

OK, saw this today. I thought it was fine, with some minor quibbles. My major quibble is that it felt like an extended third act of the LAST movie. It didn't seem like the story was moved along any further at the end of this one.

I thought some of the action was over the top....the rope swinging scene in particular. I was having flashbacks to Johnny Depp swinging all over the place in "At Worlds End".

The knife fight seemed to feel the most realistic as far as action went...and the car chase was pretty cool.

Overall though it was pretty good. I liked the story for the most part. It wasn't as good as Casino Royale though.

It was one of my minor quibbles -- the action scenes being cut too quickly among too many closeups. It got confusing at times.

Just watched it tonight with my wife and I think the story is not as solid as Casino Royale. For a short while there, I thought I was watching Jason Bourne running on roof tops and doing his window hoping thing...=). Other than that, I think it's a decent 007 film.

I saw this a second time with my GF last night... I'm telling you, the best way to see any movie is during the week.

On Tuesday it was me and 15 people in the whole theater... GOLDEN SILENCE... and last night I had a nice looking, middle aged couple sit down next to me... I even thought to myself, hmm... the lady looks like Linda Evans ... but there's no judging a book by it's cover... because those MF'ers talked and commented on the movie for the first half... including laughing at stupid sh*t like "ha-ha-ha, he broke the doorknob off"... I can't believe how UN-self aware most people are... so it was, at that point... that I crossed my legs so that my foot was almost against the lady... and hunched over the armrest to totally invade her personal space... I was as much in her seat as my own... and for some reason that gave me the satisfaction I was looking for... every time she commented on the movie I got closer! *LOL* I had the idea to induce silence through discomfort... "who is this weirdo honey? he's in my seat..."

For the most part... it worked. The only thing I didn't do is put the armrest up and scootch over...

Also... would it be weird to put a sight on a laser pointer? I'd love to pop a dot on the phone of anybody who starts texting during a movie... the stupid screen pulls your eye into the darkness... I wish we could call them out in a way that wouldn't cause additional distractions... but would tell the PEOPLE "hey, you are ruining the movie".

Anyway... the film? Yeah, it was worth a second look... I'll take this pace over the normal Bond pace any day. There are parts of Casino Royale that were truly awesome... but if somebody's watching that I have to leave the room during the card games... even when Bond has to try to save himself... I'm so bored through all that... and there's little time to be bored in the new film... even if the story arc is somewhat missing.

Just make sure you don't see a FULL show that prevents you from moving away from some idiot that's piling into your seat for no good reason ;-)
