Quality loss when editing with DVCPro HD

I've always heard DVCPro HD was a great codec and format but apparently it is not the best for editing since there is quality loss when applying effects, transitions etc.

I'd like to know just how serious this loss is?

Apart from going uncompressed is there a lossless way of editing then outputting to DVCPro HD.

Any thoughts?
 
unless you need to cc..it's not that bad.
once your done doing all your transitions etc,
clear out your render files in the scratch disk,
then output your file straight from the sequence in whatever format you need.
