Quality difference in rendered AVI ?

Hi, to all those seniors out there... I have a problem understanding this things..

What is the difference between the DV-captured AVI's and the AVI after rendering in premiere ?

Will there be loss in quality ?

Consider my problem here :
I'm capturing from a SVHS tape, then I would like to input some background songs into the clip. Will there be any quality loss after rendering ?

- What is the best output format for this scenario ? DVD or VCD ?

Thanks

Yes, there is a slight (very slight) quality loss since you're compressing it for the first time. Not a big deal unless you're planing to do additional effects/color correction in which case you want to work with uncompressed avi. The captured .avi files actually already went through compression from the tape/camera, you'll just be compressing again.

You always want to go DVD.

Hi, Jade.. Thanks for your input.

so basically inputing songs shall be alright for the captured avi clips, just not to adjust the colors...noted your point there.

Actually, you can do pretty much any kind of editing you want as long as you keep the number of times you render down to a minimum. For example, if you put the music in, color correct and render it out you'll get better quality than if you add the music, render it out and then color correct on that rendered file. Every generation of rendering results in more quality loss so you want to compress as few time as possible.
