QT reference from avid into After Effects

Im working with a project in Avid with MXF files and have created a Quick Time reference to the files. After effects imports the reference and lets me work with it, but when I go to export out of AE I get an error and AE shuts down or locks up. Ive tried to export in every kind of format thinking that that was the problem. Im starting to think that AE is loosing contact of the QT reference file while rendering. Can anyone give me any sugestions please? Is there a better way to go from Avid to AE and back?

What type of Avid? Express, Composer, DS ?
What are your settings in the render queue?
Are you rendering out using an Avid codec or QT animation codec?
I've never worked with MXF files in AE. I usually export out of Avid an uncompressed QT using Avid's Meridien codec. In AE I render out using the Meridien codec, never had any problems.
