QT question

Alright all you tech savvy web guys out there I have question. I'm not happy with the .wmv format I curretnly use for my demo page and want to move into the realm of quicktime or mpeg 4. Any certain render setting in Vegas that I should be aware of? What's the best? Should I stream? I'm soo confused....

Re: QT question

I would be interested in that kind of information too...
I tried to export a movie to QuickTime with Vegas, target being the Internet.  I tried with Sorenson, Sorenson 3, Mpeg-4, and for the audio I really don't know which codec to take I don't know those qt compatible codecs (when encoding AVIs I usually use LameMP3 encoder for audio).  I tried in QT to use IMA 4:1, default settings.  The problem is that for a 5 mins movie I get a file of 250mb and more with those codecs.  I leave the movie in its original resoluion 720x480, maybe I should reduce it but I'm no tempted since I don't want to lower too much the quality of it...  Any suggestions?  I checked the movie infos of the WATER'S EDGE mov by Disjecta, a nice piece of work well encoded, I seen Sorenson and IMA 4:1, and he reduced the res also, and got a very decent file size, but I cant get it on my side !!

Re: QT question

what are your .wmv settings? I've had great success with this format out of Vegas. Better than Quicktime.

Vegas "out of the box" has some great encoding capabilities.. if you're planning on doing a lot of compression for web / CD and such, I'd recommend you look at Procoder.

Re: QT question

I don't mean to take over the thread, but I think my questions are very related to the OctoberPro questions and it could give him some answers too...(if I'm wrong just tell me I will start a new thread)

--> I tried wmv and I got sound sync issues.  I had sync issues too with QT preset video 1Mbps and 3Mbps (just changed the framerate in the codec to 24fps to match my timeline (23.976))...  Could this be the problem, my timeline is 23.976 while in the codec we don't have this choice, only 24fps (film).  DO they mean 23.976 or is it really 24fps?  If so, should I render to QT in 29.97 and let the encoder do the conversion ?  But I would like to have a true 24p QT...

When I render it to DV or mpeg-2, everything is in sync.  So the problem is not on the timeline side, really seems an encoding issue.

Thanks for any help
