QT Pro render in Vegas

Hi, I want to use the QT Pro version and render a video clip that will give me better compression as well as control over the size of the screen. How do i do that? I am not a mac user and want to do this on a PC.

If I by the upgrade from regular QT to QT Pro will I get all the above things that I am looking for?

So far my experiece with .mov render using the standard QT has been real bad and for most of the stuff I end up using .wmv which does a nice job but does not allow me to control the size of the window.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

-Krish

P.S: I am doing SD not HD.

QT Pro will give you good quality streaming videos yes. It depends on what your trying to do really. I've used .wmv for quite some time for showing friends / family and never hand a problem with it. However I am happy with my switch using QT Pro as it has given me some pretty decent results:

If you end up getting Pro let me know, I can give you my compression settings if your interested.

thanks, I saw your vid and it looks really nice. In fact that is exactly what i want to do is to setup a page with a small window like yours. Is that something controlled on the QT pro side or more like an attribute of setting up the web page?

I recently wen down this path. I was trying to render using the .h264 codec in Vegas (mp4 file), but I was unable to get it to faststart like a regular QT. i ended up buying QT Pro. I was hoping to just re-encapsulate the existing h264 file using QT pro, but it didn't recognize the specific codec (it was looking for an apple codec). i ended up chasing it down to some obscure error. in the end, I just encoded out of Vegas using quicktime and Sorenson3 at something like 1200 Kb/sec. Then re-encoding in QT pro using its h264 in a mov container at the data rate I wanted. Worked well, but relatively slow. File size was good and so was quality. You can see the file at:

You know you can just render out a regular DV .avi file and compress that in QT Pro to h.264. One less compression step (and saved time). That's how I do it for everything on my site.

Also, I find the QT Pro encoder to be more flexible with regards to settings such as bit rate and the actual size of the video.

Agreed. For the work I was doing, this seemed to give me adequate results without a gonzo intermediate file. The end results were good enough.

I guess I never seem to re-render to DV .avi once I've started edited. DV still requires some compression. If I wanted highest quality h264, I would render to QT Animation (lossless) then encode to h264.

Which renders larger file, QT Animation or DV avi? Is DV out of Vegas lossless?

hmm, i do a lot of short edits qwhere i have to output an avi and then covert it to an h264 .mov or mp4. I've been trying to figure out the best way to just compress it within vegas. Any sugestions? right now i'm using the Mainconcept mp4 encoder, but it isnt all that hot.

If I'm going to mp4, I use the same codec. The speed and quality appear comparable to QT Pro. As I said, the speed is much quicker renering in Vegas for me. I still haven't had a chance to test the same encode in QT Pro using a DV .avi file. It would be interesting to see if it is quicker.

One more thing, I'm creating a 16:9 video and am wondering for online viewing, does QT support 1.212 pixel aspect ratio?
