QT play back issues

Hey guys. Im stumped.

I've been editing a project in FCP6 on my older G5 for days with no problem. I open up the same project in my newer mac book pro of which I edit off of all the time as well (just not this project) and the play back is choppy (in the viewer and the timeline) and I keep getting dropped frame messages.

My G raid scratch disk has 200gigs of free space. im not in unlimited RT and I only have 1 sequence open and its choppy and wont play back.

THEN I start to play QT files outside of FCP and they wont play back right either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What codec, frame size, frame rate, bitrate? It could just be that your MacBook isn't powerful enough to play the footage back.

I'm using FW 800 G raid

The reason this boggling me is because I just edited a much bigger project shot with 7D with no playback problems (relatively).

Now I'm shooting on an older HD camera, transferred to Pro Res 422. Like I have a million times, but Now it plays choppy. But didn't in my 7 year old G5.

It could be an issue with your installation, such as a very full application cache or a permissions issue.

Short of reinstalling everything, I would suggest you use Onyx (for general OS X maintenance) and FCS Maintenance Pack for fixing FCS and Quicktime related issues.

If the problem still persists, it could be a software/OS issue (I'd suggest a complete reinstallation of OS and applications) or a hardware issue.

Cheers,

c
