QT Export and Compressor

I'm trying to export a sequence from FCP using Compressor as MPEG-2 for a DVD. So, I export it through to Compressor, then select the MPEG-2 preset. When I submit the batch it fails and tells me "Error: Could not open file." So, I did it again and noticed that in Compressor's preview menu, the image is outlined in RED. I'm guessing this means that my MPEG-2 codec is missing...yes? no?

I reinstalled Compressor, but still have the same problem.

Then I thought I'd just export it to MPEG-2 using QT, but QT doesn't give me an option to export at MPEG-2 anymore?! WTF? It's registered as QT Pro, should I not have the ability to Export as MPEG-2?

HELP!

In the recent versions of QT/FCP (it seems since FCP 4.5) you must use Compressor to export/create MPEG-2's. It is no longer built-in/accessible using QT itself. The only other choice is to use a third party solution such as BitVice. But of course you'll have to pay for that seperately as it is not an included Apple product.

As for the error, do what gun said, export a Quicktime reference movie (so NOT self contained) and see if that will play back okay in quicktime. If not, then there is some missing/corrupt/whatever footage associated with your timeline.

cheers.

Yeah, my ref movie plays fine in QT. It's not the movie...it's Compressor. I've tried all kinds of clips, and NONE of them work. Here's that red line box around the preview that I was talking about.

Then if I go ahead and hit Submit, it'll quit right away and tell me that it couldn't open the file...and I'm pretty sure it's talking about the codec. Note that the MPEG-2 codec is selected. If I click on the Dolby 2.0 line, the red box goes away.

UPDATE: It's doing this for ALL of my video codecs.

In my fury, I read the manual (if all else fails). The manual didn't tell me much to help with my problem, but I just happened to read about the Views button at the top right of the Preview window. So, curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it and voila! The red box disappeared? Why? Got me. But I can export out of Compressor again...phew.
