Q about your workflow between Premiere and AE

How do you guys work with these two programs?

My brother has had After Effects and Magic Bullet so I have experience doing color correction in After Effects, is there any problem with doing it there instead of in Premiere?

Also let's say you have some effects to do in your short film, what would your workflow look like? Do you cut the footage together first in Premiere than go over to AE and do all the effects and explosions and color correction, than move back to premiere to finish off with the sound and other last minute touches to the cut?

Any help appreciated!

Since Premiere Pro and AE are Adobe softwares they are made to work well together. Here's a tip I would do if I were you. Have both programs opened on your computer. Cut and edit in Premiere. if you have a shot that requires After Effects, copy the clip in Premiere Pro, create a composition in After Effects matching the length of your sequence in Premiere and paste. Your clip will appear in the same place it was in Premiere in the After Effects composition. You can do replace with AE composition but I've found it to be tedious and time consuming. Also, after seeing Eran Stern and Andrew Kramer do this tip I haven't used the replace or send clips function to After Effects since. If you need to get you AE composition into Premiere, just import the composition into Premiere Pro but make sure After Effects is open so you don't run into any issues. If you don't want to do that, then just export your AE composition to match your sequence settings in Premiere. It's easier to import but if you need to make changes, you will have to export again to reflect any changes. Also, download the Trim Compose script from VideoCopilot. It's a lifesaver and makes dealing with clips so much easier. Hopefully, this helps you out

Thanks a lot man, that's a whole lot of helpful info in one post. I'll try those tips and post back if I have any problems
