Pyrotechnics?

Currently in the preproduction stage for my next music video... About halfway into the song the band members take hammers to a circuit breaker box. I need sparks to fly, and I also want different close ups of lightbulbs exploding (from surges).

Any suggestions? Any Pyrotechnitians in the Chicagoland area willing to give me prices for something like this? Im willing to do it myself however if it isnt too dangerous.

Re: Pyrotechnics?

You could do this with After Effects easily enough if you know how to work with the program :)

Re: Pyrotechnics?

creating sparks and flashes in after effects may be easy, but artificially lighting someones face from a light source that doesnt exist - seems impossible.

Re: Pyrotechnics?

Yes that does make it more difficult but I'm not sure it's impossible. If you can find a good graphic artist you shouldn't have much trouble.

Re: Pyrotechnics?

Okay this is strictly experimental. Use a light source that will emulate the flashes of sparks, may be a strobe light covered with the gel that matches the color of the sparks. Cover the light with green or blue screen color material (buy the blue screen paint and paint the material). Shoot the scene with the light flashing. In after effects pull a key and composite the graphics of the sparks over the area of the light which was covered with the blue/green material. The final scene will have the sparks from the after effects graphics and the band will be illuminated by the light.
