Putting on Zeppelin all the time?

Dear All,
I just got my new Zeppelin, and it is so far so good, but I still haven't had a chance to use it on location yet.
I am wondering if I should put it on all the time. Is there any disadvantages for putiing it on?
By the way, there is little long (about 1 inch) rectangular rubber accessory. Do you know how to use it?
Thanks.

maybe ut come instead the xlr mount ?
noneed to work in doors as it just more weight on your boom

I keep my mic in the Rycote all the time unless the client request otherwise. For example NBA will not allow you to use it for huddles or anytime on court when you are working for them (of course you're inside and really don't need it). So I take it out (of the Zep) and put a foamie on. But for most of corp. or other television clients they don't care as long as you get good audio. I just find it is easier to leave it set up all the time. Oleg is right though if you have a lot of booming to do inside you may want to take it out it does add weight.

All wind protection cuts some high frequencies, so it is a balance between "hi-fi" and wind noise. I would not worry using Zeppelin all the time (exept the weight), but take the windjammer off when indoors...

By windjammer, do you mean the fur thing? Very strange, my Zeppelin doesn't come with any manual. That's why I have no idea that retangular rubber is used for.
Thanks.

I have a Rycote softie, but just ordered a zeppelin with a windjammer. I'll probably leave the zep on all the time and just take the windjammer off when indoors, as Petrus has suggested (unless booming for longer periods, as Oleg has suggested).

So I'm wondering, will I have any use for the softie anymore?

I might keep it for a different mic... if I do, does it make sense to leave the softie on while indoors??

I'm assuming if weight wasn't an issue you could just use the Zepplin both indoors and out and that would save you from having buy a BBG if you didn't have one. If I'm wrong please let me know...

I leave my shotguns in the zepplin all the time, primarily because it is easier than taking it in and out (and it is always ready to go). Also, it provides a bit of added protection.

I never put the windjammer on unless it is breezy.

my experience is the sound recorded with Rycote and Zepplin is just simply different. Zepplin cuts a lot of high frequency, so I think I won't use it all the time - not because of the weight, but the sound quality.
Thanks, everyone.

Keep in mind I'm referring to my shotguns, and since I only use them outdoors they have to be in a zepplin anyway because otherwise you will pick up wind noise.

Dude I put on Zeppelin ALL THE TIME - Dazed & Confused, When the Levy Breaks, Stairway bro... ALL Zep, ALL THE TIME. I like Cream too!

I assume leaving the zep on indoors saves removing and refitting it. Personally I'd take it off, in case it knocks the top end of the voices around too much.

But leaving it on indoors would depend on the mic in it, a shotgun no. And whether it'll get in the lights ... the crew might get the wind up. :2vrolijk_08:

Cheers.
