PUSHCAM mini dolly

I like it. But, is this not a product that one could make themselves easily?(easily without a fluidhead)

I really liked the shots pushing in on the guy sitting at the table. Didn't understand the motorcycle shots but ah well.

This may grow on me, and the price isn't outrageous. Thanks for the link.

Ridiculous that they are calling the mini fluid "fluid"! That's not a fluid head...... price is a bit steep for a skateboard with a basic head on it. Curious to see what the Edge model goes for.

HaHa. You think this is absurd? Haven't you seen P+S Technik's $6K version?
It's called SkaterMini.

Where's the blonde, for 6K, it HAS to come with a free blonde...

that thing looks like a mix between a 1 ton floor jack for a car and a old school bicycle tire pump! LOL! I guess it works....

I've gotta say, with all the dolly, stabilizer, crane, and "mini 35" adaptors out there, selling for outrageous prices, it makes me wish that in high school, I spent less time fooling around with video cameras and computer editing, and more time in shop class.

As a loooow budget videomaker, building all the gadgets I have a need for, it seems like right now, I'd have to nominate Home Depot as my favourite movie gear shop!

Couldn't agree more. Then again, supply&demand...there are people out there willing to pay for that.

Oh wow... I just took a look at the SkaterMini. $6K is extreme, but still, take a look at the PDF:
http://www.zgc.com/zgc.nsf/attach/skater/$FILE/SKATER_Mini.pdf

It's the rotation part that I find interesting. I've always loved curved/circular dolly tracks, and this gives you an infinitely variable curve diameter, no tracks needed.

A Pushcam wouldn't be hard to build. The SkaterMini, however, would be a really nice piece of kit to create a cheaper clone of

I suggested to the maker of PUSHCAM to have the EDGE's arm to be a mini jibarm that can boom up and down with different tension levels. He said that is a good idea and may consider it for future EDGE models. Also, I suggested for the wheels to have a tension- adjust as well for different dolly push/pull speed control.

Collink, my thoughts exactly.
I want to make films, not manufacture and sell gear.

I would like to clarify that when I say $300 seems a steep price for the Pushcams, I have no doubt that it costs a lot to design/manufacture and sell those items. I think they are probably reasonably priced for everything involved. Making those metal plates, getting stickers and graphics made, and of course marketing them, gets pretty expensive.

So, when I say it seems expensive, it's just because I could make one with starting with a block of scrap wood. It would look like crap and I could never sell it, but it would get the job done. And that's all I'm looking for, a great end result.

Right now, I'm thinking I'd like to make something along the lines of the Pushcam, a simple block with a 3/8th screw for mounting my video head on, and skateboard wheels. I'd just want to make it with the front and back wheels mounted to an assembly underneath that allowed them to rotate - 4 wheel steering - so I could get the kind of rotation arcs of the SkaterMini.

If I come up with something that's actually kind of clever, I'll take photos along the way and post instructions on my website.

My summer projects will be building a doorway dolly/western dolly type thing, that can use pneuamatic tires, or run on home built track, and a Pushcam/SkaterMini type device. Sandbags, too. And as for a hand-held stabilizer? I'll think I'll buy a Steadicam Merlin! I've used the JR, and I know I can't build something anywhere near as good as that puppy!

I hope you know I'm trying to talk down the idea you so you will actually make one...
and then post the plans for all to see! That would be fantastic!! Best of luck.
