Purchasing Sources

Is anyone familiar with Berger Bros.? http://www.berger-bros.com/

They were recommended by someone on photo.net but I am more familiar with you folks.

I have the money now and am ready to buy. Can't wait. It seems that when I can't buy yet, I KNOW what I want and then when the time comes, it's a real nit-pic time for me.

I intend to buy one this weekend or Monday ... as anyone, I want the best bang for the buck, but I don't want to get ripped off either.

I'm not buying any lens at this time as I have those already but I do intend to get the vertical grip/extra battery and some sort of off camera flash unit. The flash unit is the hardest thing for me to decide on right now ...

I went to the site you posted in post #2 Dan and didn't see Berger Bros. listed. Then I saw a search there. I found your posted site's review. 9.5 out of 10. As usual, the customer reviews are mixed but by far stated as "very satisfied". It doesn't look like the few dissatisfied had to do with any of the product. It also states that Sony lists them as a retailer. My other choice is B&H. I'll see what total for what I want is I guess. I hope all this isn't too boring for ya'll. :)

I'm set on the camera ..... Now - The flash. Whew ... The camera has built in wireless capability. The flash I'm looking at ( HVL-F56AM ) comes with a stand of some sort and is wireless. I "think" I'm finding that the remote flash would be triggered by the on camera flash? I know you guys don't have the Sony stuff, but if any could help me out with any input here I'd sure appreciate it. I thought they were RF. If triggered though by the on camera flash, what good is that if you don't want the on camera flash. I have to go away for a while ... it will give my brain a break from reading overload. Hopefully someone here can explain something about off camera flash. I looked on other discussion boards too. Way too much trash talk back and forth. Not totally, but too much. This board is great. Later ....

Ok, one last question before I finalize the purchase. I'm set on the camera, high speed-4GB memory, wireless flash and an extra battery. I have never used a vertical grip. Do any of you use one? How useful is it? I've never had a problem doing vertical without one. I don't know that it is a big deal, but with one I can install two batteries. All the above is in my "shopping cart" at B & H Photo. They want $299 for the vertical grip and Berger Bros. only wants $249. I'd rather buy from one source for this order but more, I'd rather save the 50 bucks. Has anyone dealt with B & H? Would they price match?

Hopefully I can get a answer or two in short order here as I have to leave for the day but would like to complete the order prior to leaving. Thanks.

I found "live chat" on B&H. They cannot match unless the competitor has the item in stock. Berger did not list the vertical grip as being in stock. I don't have time to call and check but even more, I did not want to go over 2K on this order and even at $249 I'd be over that some so I opted for getting one at a later date if I feel I need one.

I have a grip on my camera. It is nice to have but not a necessity. I like it b/c it holds 2 batteries so I don't have to look for one or carry it in my pocket in case the first one runs dead. It's already there. I also like the extra weight, which can help me stabilize the camera a little better than without. It's really just a "personal taste" sort of thing. The actual shutter release is the last of my concerns with the grip. I find myself even using the regular shutter release 50% of the time I frame vertically.
