I'm hoping someone can help me out with this -- I'm upgrading my equipment to HD and am looking for a solid and reputable place to purchase some new equipment. Unfortunately I cannot make it over to Glendale to go to the EVS out there, so I'm asking if there are any other places you'd recommend a bit closer to Santa Monica. I hear Samy's down near Playa Vista is a solid choice. Any suggestions?

Hahahaha! I asked the people at that samy's a question that involved PL mounts and they didn't even know what a PL mount was. Said they had never heard of it. Last time I ever went there. Plus I don't like the deli-ticket system of service. I was looking to spend about $10,000 on camera gear once.... but I feel like taking a number from a deli-machine and standing in line for 35 min is not the experience I want. I went elsewhere and was helped like I was purchasing more than a lb of ham.
My real advice is purchase out of state over the internet (from a reputable company) and avoid CA sales tax. I'm sure some CA vendors won't enjoy that advice, but hey. They can write their senators.
