Purchasing a firestore 100. Where?

Hey guys!

Well i'm from the UK, and wow what a 'delight' it is trying to get a firestore 100 here for a decent price.

So far i've seen it for £1500 ($2800!!!) at videokit.co.uk

While at B&H (currently out of stock) their price is a mere, $1999 (including p&p to the UK) But does anyone have experience of what the cost of customs & duty might be like on an item of this price? Is it just straight VAT 17.5 % that would be added (if anyone knows) I imagine there is a further import duty of like um 5%?

So has ANYONE got suggestions for where to get a firestore for a fair price (lol) in the UK, or any US companies to suggest doing good deals on the firestore?

I thought firestore was just a hard drive (Well perhaps a bit more...) that just recorded what came out of the cam.
Am I wrong on this, seems like we get shafed again! Why am I not surprised.

Dave.

Oh my god! You mean there is a NTSC and PAL version *falls on knees* Nooooo, your right dave, looks like us brits get fekin shafted again!

i got stuff from b&h & their 'global express mail' delivery service & didn't get charged any duty - it surprised me cause every other time i'd bought stuff from the u.s. i was charged the 17.5%. perhaps it was the 'global express mail delivery' service bit that got it through for free or maybe i was just lucky. the order was for about $500

I've ordered stuff from the US and had it on Global Express. Normaly the duty and vat fees come in after you have recieved the goods, sometime up to 6 months.

They have the PAL version.

Yeah its a shame FE have made 2 versions to fleece the end users, it is after all a freaking hard drive. Well I guess they have to make as much money as they can.

I'm sure someone will hack it someday, it can't be that hard :-)

if you have an hvx i don't se why you can't use it. HD is HD...there's no pal or ntsc

Wrong, there is NTSC and PAL format differences in the camera hardware itself. And there are differences between NTSC DVCPRO-HD and PAL DVCPRO-HD, such as the difference between 24fps (NTSC) and 25fps (PAL).
