just wondering which mic would be a proper chioce for very very loud and noisy show? and it has to be attached to camera.
shotgun doesnt seem to be best option, right??
Shot gun doesn't make much sense. Your best bet would be just getting as good a quality cardiod mic as possible to mount on the camera, and try to cajole a line feed out of the sound guy, recording one to each track.
Then you could blend the two together to taste later. It'll end up being a mono mix. But a mono-mix that sounds half-way decent is way more desirable than stereo s^%$.
This is a tough one - everyone here will have really different opinions. If you cant get a feed (and be careful here, when it comes to stuff like punk, the feed is often so clean the music sounds terrible, so you might not like it), then obviously the next choice is a microphone.
Here are your options with pros and cons(I reckon - correct me if you dont agree guys):
Shotgun on camera: ok, heres why I think it doesnt ENTIRELY not make sense. Its directional, so you might be able to avoid a lot of typical punk audience noise. But obviously in a small space its not a miracle maker, so you'll still get a good sense of 'event' through its off axis. I've got good sound at concert events before with a shotgun, it just depends on what vibe/quality/feel you need.
Hypercardioid on cam: less off axis colouration of the sound, but still quite directional. Personally, for a punk concert, if I just wanted to get a vibe on tape, Id try this first.
Cardioid: big, environmental sound - you'll get mostly everything, including audience. Wicked, if thats what you want.
On camera mic/stereo: they say never use it, but in a big loud environment, and you wanting the music, it might be cool. Have a listen.
I hope this is helpful. Punk is so damn loud and uncontrollable that maybe a rougher sound is better... but then again, I dont know what youre trying to film, so i could be talking garbage.
