Is there a digital way to punch in and check focus on a prime lens?

Yes. 4x and 8x. Wish there was a 2x as well though. It's rather noisy, 8x pretty much useless, 4x borderline but works.

Thanks for your reply. But how do you zoom in 4x and 8x? Button on the side?

Its called "Expanded Focus Mag." By default its a button on the hand grip, but can be assigned to any of the assignable side buttons (1 through 6) on the camera from the menu.
