pulldown woes

I shot in 24pa. My editor and I cut on his Mac using FCP, where we removed 2-3-3-2 pulldown. Today he output our short to a miniDV tape. I just captured it in Vegas -- I tried a couple different settings for rendering out mpg2s for DVD, but when I playback on my DVD player, objects in motion appear to have trails.

In reading the 24p whitepaper, it sounds like we should have reinserted the 2-3-3-2 pulldown before we output to miniDV since I had to bring it into Vegas. Do I need to start over again on the Mac or can I salvage what I have?

Thanks in advance for any replies -- I wish my workflow was as simple as the one described on the whitepaper, but it's not

One more question: why did I have to render a separate ac3 file? I've burned mpeg2s before and I don't remember having to perform this extra step.

The easiest step would be to print another tape from Final Cut inserting the pulldown. Vegas can remove pulldown "manually," even if the flags aren't there, but it's a little bit complicated and it would be easier just to go with another tape.

You render a separate AC-3 file to make DVD Architect's job easier. Any DVD authoring program is going to separate the audio from the video anyway; you save yourself a great deal of render/prep time in DVDA by just following the steps and rendering the files separately. (It usually takes only seconds or a very few minutes.)

Thanks, David.

What if my editor were to give me an umcompressed MOV file for me to bring into Vegas? Would he need to insert a 2-3-3-2 pulldown into that?
