Pulldown not removed from P2 footage in FCP 6

It seems that in FCP 6 if you shoot 24pA to P2 card, Log and Transfer will not remove the duplicate frames to get a 23.97 file. Instead they're pulled in at 29.97 FPS. This is in spite of having "remove duplicate frames" checkmarked.

This is devistating to my workflow. Can anyone verify this information or tell me what I might be doing wrong? A quick google search revealed a few more reports of this in FCP 6, but I haven't found anything official about it.

Uh...if you shoot 24PN...24P NATIVE...then there is no pulldown to remove. That is the setting you should be using if you want to shoot 720p at 23.98.

Or are you talking shooting DV to a P2 card?

Just out of curiousity, does QT read it as 29.97 or just FCP? People have that kind of quirk before and just had to find ways to kick FCP into seeing it right (can't recall what others have done, just recall QT right/FCP wrong scenarios being talked about here before).

cheers.

QT and CinemaTools read it as 29.97. And in FCP I can step through the clip and see the duplicate frames that should have been removed.

I just noticed that there's now an option under the Tools menu that says "Remove Advanced Pulldown." If I select the clips after they've been incorrectly imported and choose this option, then everything is read as 23.97 and the duplicate frames are removed.

This seems more and more like an actual software problem with the remove advanced pulldown during import feature not working. At least in the interum I can continue working with 1080 24pA footage albeit with a few extra steps.

Anyone else out there with FCP 6 who shoots 1080 24pA and can confirm this software behavior?

I just realized the same issue (No Pulldown Removal during log and transfer)...
(1080 24PA)

Does anyone now know how to fix it?

or Should I just do 'pulldown removal' after 'log and transfer'? (like krestofre said)

I had the same issue with footage recorded on firestore. This is a well known software issue.

Do what he did. Tools >>> Remove Advanced Pulldown.

Are you experiencing interlace after the Pulldown has been removed, as some here have found?

I'm seeing some 1080 24pA footage with a ONE LINE interlace at the top, that's had Pulldown removed on the fly.

The Log and Transfer bug was fixed with FCP 6.0.1. Do a software update if you haven't. Then pulldown gets removed during the import through Log and Transfer.

Regarding the one line interlace, I haven't seen that. Sorry.
