Public Domain Recordings

Are there any actual recordings (not just musical compositions or notes) of some of the older classical music available in the public domain.

I've heard that pretty much everything pre-1922 is PD, but I'm assuming that the reproductions of those older works are still copyrighted by whoever recorded them. So I was curious if anyone knew where I could get actual recordings or if they are even available. I'm really struggling to find high quality royalty free stuff.

Thanks!

Well, my small label (Ullanta MusicWorks) might be able to work something out for you... contact us at licensing@ullanta.com with some more information on what you need...

P.S., Indeed laws and copyrights pertaining to RECORDINGS are distinct from laws and copyrights pertaining to COMPOSITIONS... in classical music, the distinction is more important because compositions are not in general associated with performers, as they tend to be in popular music.
