I'm trying to edit files from an canon hv20 - .mts files - in vegas 8. the clips play very choppy at around 5-6 fps on draft settings. impossible to edit. I think the computer might be too slow to play it ( athlon XP 3000+ 2.16 ghz and 2 gigs of ram) but I'm not sure if the codec itself might be the fault.

Wait, you are really confusing me here. Is it the HV20 or the HG10 the camera producing these files? Is it M2T or MTS? Be sure of the extension because these two kinds of files are NOT the same.

If it's MTS and HG10, then what you get is correct. AVCHD MTS files require a LOT more CPU than your Athlon can deliver.

If it's M2T and HV20, then you should be getting about 10-15 fps on that machine. Again you need a faster PC for HDV, although not as fast as for AVCHD.
