Psyched

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
So on Saturday we did the first full-range-of-motion/crush-action/pyro test, for the favorite of my sets on this show...

It's an FBI Command Vehicle interior, consoles, a dozen display screens, technicians chattering away (when we shoot it, not for the test...) and part of the story calls for it to be lifted into the air, crushed like a beer can, and tossed away by this big 'ol nasty robot critter. So I designed the treatment for the full-size practical vehicle exteriors (we have two; one hero and one post-crush-mutilated) plus the full interior.

Anyway, it's up +10' off stage floor on a big 3-axis motion base, rigged from the outside with cables and pistons to crush in the sides, consoles and screens all lit up, and we spent the afternoon tilt-a-whirling it around (that base can move...) and finally firing all the explosive bolts and crushing the crap out of it. And it looked great. We have really outstanding FX guys, on this crew...

I took some cell-phone pix. Once I figure out how to get them off the phone, I'll post a couple.

It should be fully re-rigged and dressed by Friday, and shoots next week.

Can't wait to see dailies, on *that*.

Man thats really some cool setup,

ahh feedback gimbal systems, the joys of PID and control theory...but I digress.

addenda...

...shooting on it, today, and crushing it, tomorrow.

Bill Nighy looks a lot younger, in person.

Funny how that works.
