Pstechnik 35mini adapter?

Has anyone played with this mini35 adapter with the DVX100? I only heard of people with the XL1 using this. I'm want to invest in one. So if there is anyone out there who either owns one or played with one with the DVX, holla.

Search the forums, there's been extensive talk on this subject. Also look at the articles, Jarred did a review on it.

Re: Pstechnik 35mini adapter?

Charles Papert of Scrubs and Instant Films fame posted the most recent film he directed (shot on DVX with Mini35) both here and on this other forum --

(dvinfo forum for just mini35 stuff)

his email is on there, and he's very approachable -- Mizell on that forum, he's one of the dudes from ZGC, will also answer a lot of your Q's -- there's a demo dvd they send out for free too (both for the mini35 and the pro35)

cheers

The mini35, Jarred didn't mention if the sharpness was reduced due to light having to travel through (btw- I am definately NOT knocking his work. Jarred rocks 8)).

a. cooke lens
b. 35mini adapter
c. leica lens

The only thing I saw it doing (and doing beautifully) was make depth of field more shallow. This gives a greater sense of space and allows for those cinematic racks of focus. This film look, this shallow depth of field seems to be something everyone has been following blindly, but as someone mentioned before on this forum: orson welles went through great pains to get his infinite depth of field for citizen kane.

However, it seemed slightly... grainier? desaturated? dunno... would have liked to see grabs from Jarred's 35mini adapter review w/o the adapter under same lighting and camera setup.

I ahve been finding that the Macro, particularly on the 100a will give you a nice shallow for racking.

The mini35 footage is most definitely grainer, and softer, but not necessarily desaturated. We did some side-by-side comparisons of the DVX with and without the mini35. I definitely preferred the look "with" -- not just because of the DOF, but because the image just looks more filmlike. These shots are on the DVX DVD.
