this is probably pretty novice, but I need to know. Can someone explain to me how to bring in a psd into fcp with trasparency. I need to bring in a logo to my project and what should be transparent in the psd file is black??? also what are the best settings in ps to prep for tv

there are presets in PS made for each of the video standards...( ie Standard DV: 720x480 with .9pa)

as for transparency, would maybe try saving the image as a tiff and checking the "preserve transparency" in the tiff settings box.

nah, make your PSD file in Photoshop with a transparent layer. When you import into FCP, it will come in as a sequence. Open that sequence and then drag your logo layer over to your track. Done and done.

Ok I must be missing something??? I am running an old school copy of ps, six that is, and I don't seem to have the option to mantain transparency on export. Probably something I'm looking over....can someone give me clear, detailed instructions.

I don't think you understand. Just keep the item you want in FCP on a separate layer in Photoshop. In Photoshop, you can build many layers to your picture. When you add a layer, it is automatically transparent. Just make sure your item that you want with the "transparent" layer is masked correctly. For example: Masking in Pshop
