Hi. I need some piece of advice. I need to buy I field mixer. My budget is not to high and I`ve seen two posibilities (and only this two are the ones I can afford) : a new PSC DVpromix3 or a used Shure FP-33 in mint condition. Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks guys.

I would go with the Shure FP33 or rent until you can save up for something better. The PSC Pro Mix after doing a ton of studying, researching, and finally getting to test it out. Its an ok mixer but its not very durable and easy to chip and bend. I wanted the PSC DV Pro Mix 6 but its built similar to the PSC DV Pro Mix 3 so I decided not to go that route. I will get the PSC Alphamix or the SD 442. Hope that helps. Others will chime in but if possible go test them out if you can at a local rental shop(if they are available). Good luck.

Nicole

ADDED: When I say durable I am referring to the build quality. The way it is built you are likely to get bent corners. Its not built like the SD per say.

I used an Alpha mix once and just HATED it. But this one looks better, at least it has meters you might be able to see. I would be leery of 9V batteries since they are pretty pricey and you probably can't use rechargeables (only 7.2V). Shure is probably a better package though my experience with the 33 was it was a bit noisy (but it was an old one). Your almost into the used MixPre range, though that only has two inputs....

If your fond of 9V's I have a Black Audio Devices two channel mic pre (9, 9V (4 for the pre and 5 for Phantom)) that I could part with.

I have a DV ProMix 3 that I am selling. The sound on this mixer is fine. I used it for a couple years to learn on. It is a very basic mixer without tone or slate mic. I bought a tone plug to line up the recorders. I used rechargeable 9v batteries.

There is a small bend on one of the corners of the top but to say the mixer is not durable is untrue. The mechanics hold up very well.

I had been keeping the ProMix 3 as a backup but now have two Sound Devices mixers, a 302 and a 552 and have no need for it.

If you are interested, it comes with a case for over the shoulder use and a power supply.
I am asking $225 plus shipping. That is very little money for a basic but reliable and good sounding mixer.

When I say durable I mean the build quality is not all that great. They are known for easily bending on the corners just how your is. The inside maybe great but I mean the actual build quality of the machine. I tend to see a few used ones with bent corners.
