I just recieved my PSC Alphamix from Trew today. Since the Alphamix takes NP-1 batteries internally I also ordered a used 4 bank NP-1 charger and a new battery.
This mixer was packaged new with a Porta-brace custom case with piggie-back. The mixer arrived with the orginal bag and piggie-back in very good condition. Much to my surprise when I searched thru the bag I found Trew had included a 15" Hirose breakaway with confidence return.
If you don't know about this mixer, it provides TWO Hirose 10 pin outputs, plus a left and right XLR (plus two 1/8" stereo aux. outs).
Typically, I am hired for shoots using a dual system. With the provided break-away, I can route the two XLR outputs to my Tascam DR-100 for bag recording, plus have the ability to send the camera 2 channels of XLR via the Hirose. I'm testing battery time right now and it's been going about 4 hours non-stop running off of a 2400 mA ni-cad (the lithiums were out of my price range), providing phantom to my me-80.
The piggie-back contains two channels of Senn. G3 and my Tascam which I've supported with some foam to give me a good view of the meters and record status.
The only downside I've found so far is that the headphone level control does not turn down all the way to zero, but rather, has a pretty high level even with the knob turned all the way down. Since I use the M-Audio IE-30s for monitoring which are super effecient and provide high levels of isolation, the level was uncomfortably loud. Fortunately, M-Audio supplies an attenuator for these situations and that is working fine. With conventional headphones, the level is easily controllable without an attenuator.
I'll be shooting all weekend and will report again after putting it thru it's paces, but for now, I couldn't be more satisfied. Thanks Trew Audio.
