Re: psa's

Thanks Scharky..I'm out of my league here but it seems to me that you would make a spec spot or two to the highest level you can achieve, then shop it to the ad agencies with the "hey look what I got" aproach. If the material is on the mark They are bound to pick you up sooner or later. If the material is good, someone will notice eventualy...I know it's possible to sell ideas to ad agencies! hope this helps

Re: psa's

Check with your local TV station or local cable company and find out what PSA's they are showing and/or sponsoring. Then get in touch with the organization/s that you find and volunteer to do a PSA for them on spec.

Re: psa's

I've done my share of PSA's. Mostly they are not paying jobs, mostly PSA's are done for nonprofit organizations, so you can submit an invoice showing the value of what you have done, what you would have charged for the services, and then the organization gives you a receipt certifying the value of your donation. You can then write that off on your taxes.

Sometimes organizations will pay to have a PSA produced, but for the most part nonprofits are in the business of receiving donations, not paying.

Re: psa's

Your best bet is the Ad Counsil. It also depends on what the PSA is for: Child abuse or Domestic Violence? DCFS. Is it for AIDS? The AIDS Foundation. You can also find out with your local authorities or TV stations which charitable efforts are done in your area.
Entering your work in festivals depends a lot on the rules, because in some you have to prove that the spot actually ran in a network (Or aired) in order for it to be elegible. Even if it's a spec spot, you have to have someone sponsor it. It can be the best idea in the world, but if it didn't air, it doesn't count.
