I'm buying the Manual Focus ring from Century Optics and it looks like you need to have the stock lens shade have while its on. I want to protect the lens with or with out it and was wondering if there was a difference uv filters. I don't think that this is necessarily true. The manual focus ring is intended to be used with a follow focus system. Depending upon the follow focus and its mounting rails, you may or may not be obligated to go with a rail attached mattebox. If the rods are not too long, the stock lens shade could still fit.

If you go with a mattebox, then you would likely not need a screw on UV filter. Keep in mind that any glass you put in front of the lens will have optical consequences so if you do decide to go with a filter, get a good one.

Thanks I didn't like the idea someone just recomended it to me. What about any clear protection with out doing anything to the image? Do you have any opinions about the manual focus? In my opinion its a must for a lot of shots but I never had any hands on with it. Thank you.
