Protecting your lens

Re: Protecting your lens

I am sure everyone on the forum uses a UV filter for protection. Its the #1 thing I was told to buy when I got my cam.

I have a Tiffen as well.

Re: Protecting your lens

I have a B+W multicoated one...works great for me. You need to remove it though to mount any wide angle/telephoto lenses.

Re: Protecting your lens

I have that same Haze filter (Tiffen) and it doesn't seem multicoated.  It produces much more flare than my B+W.  However, it is about twice the price.  Personally, I think the B+W (Schneider Optics) stuff is excellent and worth the extra cash...

Re: Protecting your lens

Ya I've been told Schneider/B+W is a better filter. They're quality control is superb. I know some suppliers who have received Tiffen filters with pieces of hair in them or other stray matter. Schneider also uses Schott White water glass...not sure if Tiffen does. I'm pretty sure they don't.

Re: Protecting your lens

I am sold and would like to buy the Schneider/B+W UV filter, can you give specific details about this filter so I can buy it.
thank you.

Re: Protecting your lens

Tiffen doesnt make a multicoated UV anymore, well they kinda do but you will hav a hard time finding it. Hoya or Snchneider are the way to go, most online stores sell them, and Marco the one you want is here at the bottom http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/filters/clear_&_uv/index.htm

The slimline ones are good, but you cant add anything in front of them like adapter rings for matteboxes or polarizers.

Re: Protecting your lens

I was thinking about buying another UV filter myself.

The Schneider Optics 72mm UV "Haze" is the one that is recommended? I tried looking for it, and 50 to 90 dollars came up. Is this correct?

If so, where did you buy yours? I'll buy it if users say its worth it, I just want to make sure it is. Thanks

Re: Protecting your lens

I've been trying to find the Schneider/B+W everyone is talking at EVS or B&H, can't seem to find it? ::)

Re: Protecting your lens

Thanks Andrew. I am still hesitating between the B+W and the Hoya SMC, is there really a difference between those 2 super multicoated?
