Protect your client 'proof copy'

Working with a client for a short corporate address. I dont trust them at all- he's already asked for discounts and wanted me to give $1300 of additional service for $350. Honestly, I really dont care if I get the business (my brain says to run)- but despite how curt & off-putting I am, they want me even more.

I've asked for 1/2 up front, the other half BEFORE delivery of multimedia files (no budget to auther BD's).

Here's my question: I obviously need to send a proof to them, I fear they'll just run with the multimedia clip emailed and never send me the remainder (court would eat up too much time). I should note that I've done business with them before ($900 worth vs $3700 this time) and they did pay, but that person is no longer at the small company. My gut tells me this is different. Besides 'ghosting' a PROOF COPY MESSAGE on the screen, is there any way to protect this? Send them a link to the clip on vimeo or youtube? Can an end user download from there? Uploading to vimeo seems like a way to keep my content locked up, while allowing them to proof....but am I missing something?

Two words ... Timecode Burn. Put a large timecode lower third on the screen. Explain that way if there's something in the proof they want to change, they can note exactly where it is. When they pay, you deliver the final minus the burn (assuming your agreement was COD).
