Protect Your Cell Number

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
...from telemarketers. Yes, ideally we could just stab them in the throats with white-hot salad forks until they quit calling, but who has the time?

REMEMBER: Cell Phone numbers Go Public this month.

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:

888-382-1222

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds.

This is what I've heard: It certainly doesn't hurt to register your cell number on the Do Not Call list. However, it's an incorrect email that goes around fairly regularly. The cell companies, fearing massive backlash from customers, don't have any interest in cell numbers going public.

The National Do Not Call Registry is open for business, putting consumers in charge of the telemarketing calls they get at home. The Federal government created the national registry to make it easier and more efficient for you to stop getting telemarketing calls you don’t want. You can register online at WWW.DONOTCALL.GOV or call toll-free, 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236), from the number you wish to register. Registration is free.

Google is your friend people.
It's true that your cell phone number will NOT be given out on mass, but if you want to register for that list, you CAN call that number.

Can a standard telephone headset deliver enough amperage to make it worthwhile?

Funny, I was just wondering the other day, after leaving my landline off the hook, after it goes "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again", then makes a screamingly loud, piercing beeping, how do they make it so much louder than voices on the phone? Where you can hear it several rooms away?

Just curious... and maybe we could harness that sound and send it to telemarketers-

"Hello, I'm calling so-and-so..."
"Oh hello, one moment please- BEEP BEEP BEEP!"
"OH, THE HORROR... THE PAIN!!!!"

When the telemarketer calls, answer and sound interested. Then excuse yourself for a moment saying, "there's someone at the door." Set the phone down for about five minutes. When you pick it back up and ask, "you were saying?" Just as they start to get into it, repeat the "somebody at the door" incident... See how long you can keep them on the line. (landlines only!)
