ProRes sequences for CS6?

Hi guys,

I just downloaded a trial of CS6 to see if it's the NLE I want to move on to from FCP6. However (just as I experienced with the trial of CS5.5 that I tried briefly) although I can bring ProRes files into my CS6 sequences easily enough - I can't for the life of me find a way to create a native ProRes sequence to edit in.

Here are the only sequence options I have access to:

Is there any kind of workaround or solution to this? I shoot everything to a PIX240 ProRes recorder these days, so if I can't work natively with ProRes in Premiere I'm stuck looking at other options.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

You don´t need that. The presets are just for convenience.
Premiere plays any codec in any time line - no mater what.
Click (not doubleclick) on any setting, than the grayed out "settings" tab becomes active. Click on it.
Make a custom setting with your frame rate, fields andwhatnot.
Save it under a meaningful name for future use.

Or you could just drag the clip to the "make new sequence" icon and the sequence will conform to the settings of the source clip.

I have to say FCPX produces a far better end result than PPr picture wise.

Try FCPX for a free 30 day trial and run some tests.

I found that the color sampling is far better in FCPX than PPr, e.g. if you look at the same ProRes footage in both FCPX and PPR
and blow them up to 200% or 400% FCPX is smooth where as PPr is very blocky.

The colour correction board in FCPX is amazing, you can do multiple secondary corrections unlike anything else within the timeline.

Additionally what ever you see in your monitor the end result exported from PPr the files are always lighter than your finished edit was, which is totally
frustrating, where as FCPX is exactly as the edit, what you see is what you get (exporting finished movie ProRes 422 or 444 as a master)

Hope that all makes sense.

No it doesn't as this is totally inaccurate :)
Sorry, but you have typical workflow problem with QT- gamma/black levels.
PROPERLY read ProRes or ANY other file will look the same in EVERY software. This what you said is related to user/software error.

No, it doesn't. You just don´t have much experience in PPr

You don´t even know about the Quicktime bug and that you can do as much secondaries as you like in PPr.
Besides that, Premiere (and AE) was used on some major features like Avatar and Social Network for finalizing/mastering
Can´t be THAT shabby.

Thanks for replies.

So its best to use native footage not ProRes, advise welcome.

As lm always looking for the best results.

Nah, ProRes is fine. I record it to my Samurai from the FS100 all the time, and it works great in Premiere on a PC.
Premiere can edit everything native - there is no transcoding at all - just trow it at the timeline and go.
I think it´s only a problem if you are on a Mac and output with compressor - than watch it on a "non mac" device.

I don´t have problems with it on my PC.
The Prores files look the same in the timeline than the AVCHD files I recorded simultaneously in the camera.
